Part Two, the teacher replies:
“It’s very unfortunate that I wasn’t able to instill in you the significance of history, much more Philippine history. Perhaps your previous history classes had affected your way of thinking and contributed to history’s further deterioration in your system. But I must say your view of history is very apathetic. As students of history, we have much to learn (and unlearn) in our past. In fact, history is a guide to navigation during perilous times. History is what made us. We are the product of our past. Without understanding our own history, we are nothing. History is who we are and why we are the way we are. So please don’t think that history classes are but mere wastes of time. It’s more than that. Studying Philippine history is an integral aspect of collegiate life as well as one’s life. Moreover, history is not just the story of prominent individuals or heroes. History must be made the story of us, of mankind, the anonymous faces, the faceless crowds. Know history and know thyself…”
