Name Names

Hectic… Toxic… Terror… Nosebleed… In UP, these are but some of the most common terms we usually associate with teachers, scenarios, or predicament we hate, dislike, or disdain most.  Citing Webster’s Dictionary:

1)     hectic: filled with excitement or confusion (Students’ standpoint: In UP, life here is definitely leaning toward the side of ’confusion’; Of course, students also tend to get excited most of the time when their teachers are absent or out.)

2)     toxic: of, relating to, or caused by a poison or toxin (Students’ standpoint: Tambak ng mga requirements at papers na dapat tapusin sa maikling panahon; I bet the ‘poison’ or ‘toxin’ here is none other than the teacher himself/herself.)

3)     terror: a state of intense fear or one that inspires fear (Students’ standpoint: No need to expound; At least he/she can be made an inspiration…of fear.)

4)     nosebleed: an attack of bleeding from the nose (Students’ standpoint: Figuratively speaking, usually uttered by a student after a very difficult exam.

Hahaha! Go! Sisiw!

The Best Medicine

A breather from tons and tons of work… Alright, this comedy flick got my attention last night.  I am not a big fan of Tagalog films starring old comedians foolishly performing their supposedly funny antics (and of course, with those matching slapstick scenes).  But this one, yes, this one, entertained me somehow…

I wasn’t able to catch the movie title but the cast included Dolphy, Babalu, Panchito, Don Pepot, and a young Dina Bonnevie.  Film setting was in the U.S. with the main character (played by Dolphy) deeply missing his immediate family and hometown as well…  With his usual antics, Babalu was superb in delivering his punchlines.  Can’t help but burst into laughter everytime.  Hahaha!

Man, we all need some good laugh after all.  Always remember: there’s a thin line between sanity and insanity.  I think I’m nearing the critical level…

Winds of Change

Time is indeed precious.  If you want to say something to anybody, just say it.  If you want to accomplish something, then do so.  Nobody knows what will happen within the day, tomorrow, the next day, the day after that, and so on and so forth.  Utter those words as if they are your last.  Act as if there’s no tomorrow…

After watching the movie ‘Click’ last night, it made me ponder as to the kind of life I am living right now.  Somehow the movie made me realize the need to reevaluate my priorities.  What do I want in life?  To where am I heading?  Is this the kind of life that I want?

It’s never too late to institute some change.  Change may not always be good.  But oftentimes change is necessary

Between Three and Four

Hah! It’s already past 3 in the morning.  And my mind is still working.  Interesting though.  I have so many things to do and yet I can’t seem to find my much-needed momentum.  Hopeless…

It’s Finals Week alright - a hellish week indeed for students and teachers alike.  And a more hellish week after that.  Imagine checking seemingly endless sets of bluebooks (some consisting of blank pages), reading tons and tons of reaction/reflection/position papers (some plagiarized), and computing the grades (some pitiful) of the future unemployed.  Yes, this is our job.  This is definitely a noble profession

Well, well.  It’s now nearing 4 a.m.  To bed now. Instead of sheep, let’s begin counting the 3’s and the 5’s

Kainin Mo

Paumanhin sa mga tatamaan.  Hindi lang mapigilan.  Nawa’y huwag tularan…

Sabado.

Heartbreaker

With the just concluded 70th season of the UAAP, my heart bleeds for UE.  After sweeping the eliminations (14-0!), the Warriors dismally ended their campaign last Sunday.  No thanks to the Archers.  Waiting for an opponent in the championship for a quite a long while (three weeks?) probably entailed a bit of rustiness on the Warriors’ part.  On the other hand, the Archers were busy finding ways to survive each grueling game.  (The Ateneo-La Salle tussle was a classic!)  Man, I wish the Warriors can regain their pride next season and possibly win the championship.  Kudos to the Pumarens nevertheless…

Hey, but then again, whatever happened to our Maroons?  Next year will be the UP Centennial.  How about the Maroons winning the championship in 2008?  Haha!  Wishful thinking…
