The Teachers We Have Come To Know and Love

Finally, after six gruelling weeks of teacher training at UP Manila, its first half came to a temporary close yesterday.  From April 14 to May 22, it’s been mostly sleepless nights and constant struggle for most lecturers in order to prepare the all-important powerpoint presentations each day.  The 232 teachers/participants came from NCR, CALABARZON, and MIMAROPA Regions, and they were all very enthusiastic about the certificate program for non-Aralin Panlipunan specialists that was provided them by DepEd with the help of the university.  In fact, we have come to know and love most of the teachers. And despite the many glitch encountered, the organizers were able to buck all pressure.  Kudos to Dr. Grace Estela Mateo, to the O.A.D.A.A. people, and to the entire Secretariat for a job well done…

The  entire undertaking was a learning process both for  the teachers/participants and for us lecturers/trainors.  The training may have been tiresome and stressful most of the time.  But definitely, the pain is all worth it.  Yesterday’s closing ceremony was very memorable for all of us.  We have made many friends, reached out to our fellow teachers, and touched their lives in one way or another – as they changed ours too.  And we hope to see them again next year for the second half of the training.  And yes, another round of sleepless nights and constant struggle…

Nothingness

Just believe in the system, no matter what.  If your patience is continually being tested, always remember that more blessings will always come to those who wait.  If you can’t wait any longer, keep in mind that patience is a virtue as they usually say.  If people don’t like your face, then you just have to accept that tragic reality.  Better to walk with heads up high, oblivious of other people’s repulsive faces.  We cannot please everybody, and that is a fact of life. Go to your workplace, accomplish all your tasks, love your work, do your usual stuff, then finally, just go home.  And it would be healthier if you could lower down your expectations or simply expect nothing in return.  Because most of the time, that’s exactly what you’re going to get.  Nothing.

Closing Time

Gary’s Restaurant is officially closed.  If you once stayed in Ermita area, or once studied at schools within the vicinity, I’m quite sure that you are all too familiar with this place located just opposite PGH along Taft Avenue.  Perfect for people on-the-go, it offers a variety of delicious foods at very reasonable prices.  It’s also the ideal place to while time away – the perfect tambayan.  As I planned to take my lunch there last last Thursday, I instead read a posted bill stating among others that due to rising cost in the area, the place is shutting down effective May 1, 2008 after 18 years of operations.  How unfortunate indeed…

During our high school and college days, we frequent the place.  Now working, still love the place.  Definitely, Gary’s will be missed
